Jim Benjamin is the manager of the real estate and business transactional department of the Firm. In September of 2016 LawWeek Colorado named Jim as the Barristers' selection of The Best Real Estate Lawyer in Colorado. In September of 2015, LawWeek Colorado named him as the Peoples' Choice as Barristers' Best Real Estate Lawyer. A past Chair of the Real Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association, Jim served on the Executive Council of the Real Estate Section for more than two decades. Currently, he is the Chair of the Joint Management Committee overseeing the Denver and Colorado Bar Associations. The Associations have trusted Jim to represent them in finding their long term principal offices by appointing him as Chair of the Associations' Building Committee. He was the President of the Denver Bar Association for the 2012-2013 term and has been on the Denver Bar Association's Board of Trustees and one of three members of the DBA Executive Council for several years.

Jim is a frequent lecturer for continuing legal education programs on substantive areas of real estate law and ethics for transactional lawyers. He is the Editor-in-Chief of CLE of Colorado, Inc.'s book on Colorado real estate forms. The book covers purchase and sale agreements, listing agreements, deeds, 1031 tax deferred exchanges, deeds of trust, promissory notes, leases, easements, closing documents, forcible entry and detainer actions and mechanics' liens. Jim is frequently retained as an expert witness to provide opinions and advice on complex real estate law matters pending in Court proceedings and also on the standards of care required by lawyers in representation on real estate transactional matters. In 1991, he founded the law firm of Benjamin & Associates, PC, which is now Benjamin & Cohen, LLC. Jim is currently a manager of the firm.

Prior to forming the firm, Jim acted as the managing partner of the real estate department of a 98 lawyer Denver firm and of the Colorado office of a multi-state national law firm.

Jim is ranked in Chambers USA and has been included in the Colorado Super Lawyers® list in real estate law every year since the inception of the list in 2006. For 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017, Jim has been included in the Top 100 Lawyers list for the State of Colorado, by Colorado Super Lawyers®.
